SPC Day 1 Fire Weather Outlook
Day 1 Fire Weather Outlook NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK 1036 AM CDT Fri Aug 31 2018 Valid 311700Z - 011200Z There is potential for isolated dry thunderstorms over portions of southern Wyoming and western Colorado, but coverage should be minimal and showers are likely to be mixed in with any thunderstorm development. Otherwise, forecast looks on track and no changes are necessary. Please see the discussion below for more details. ..Nauslar.. 08/31/2018 .PREV DISCUSSION... /ISSUED 1258 AM CDT Fri Aug 31 2018/ ...Synopsis... A broad, loosely organized trough will persist across the West today in tandem with a belt of enhanced mid-level flow extending from Montana/Wyoming eastward across the Dakotas. At the surface, a front will migrate southward across the northern High Plains north of a surface low/trough centered over eastern Colorado. The synoptic pattern will foster areas of breezy conditions across the central Rockies along with an elevated fire weather threat. ...Southern Wyoming, northwestern Colorado, and adjacent areas of Utah... Areas of 15-25 mph westerly surface winds will develop during the afternoon and early evening in response to the synoptic pattern and vertical mixing processes. A slightly more moist airmass (compared to previous days) will reside across the region, with RH values falling to borderline critical values but not falling low enough to justify any upgrades. An elevated fire weather delineation is in place to address this afternoon's fire-weather threat. ...Southern California... Localized areas of Santa Barbara County, CA will experience 10-15 mph offshore flow and low (15-25%) RH values during the day. These conditions will be too limited in space/time for any delineation, although elevated conditions may exist where fuels are dry. ...Please see www.spc.noaa.gov/fire for graphic product...
