Stina Fire … What Happens Next (Stina Fire Wildfire)

Wildland Fire Incidents - 5 hours 31 min ago
Fredonia, Ariz., Aug. 22, 2018 - Firefighters and fire managers are working to contain the Stina Fire, burning since July 26, 2018. As fire suppression activities wind down, crews have begun the task of cleaning up after all their hard work. The task of mitigating the impact of the fight to stop the fire is referred to as “suppression repair”. Suppression repair encompasses many tasks. Crews will chip and spread or scatter slash left along firelines and roads and drop damaged trees that may pose a hazard to visitors. All equipment and supplies brought into the area will be “back-hauled” or collected and removed. Roads will be graded and water diversion features will be added to road, trails, dozer and hand lines, etc. to provide drainage and minimize erosion. Dozer and hand lines, staging areas, safety zones, and heli-spots constructed for the fire will be naturally contoured and covered with slash or seeded where necessary to reduce soil erosion. This does not include...

Air Quality - August 21, 2018 (Cougar Creek Fire Wildfire)

Wildland Fire Incidents - 5 hours 33 min ago
Fire - Similar weather conditions as yesterday mean moderate to high intensity fire behavior expected again today. Crescent and McLeod fires, the two largest in the Methow Valley area, in combination grew about 8,000 acres yesterday. Cougar fire between Plain and Entiat, is estimated to be 39,344 acres in total. Smoke - Persistent smoke throughout the forecast area means that air quality is expected to remain impaired although east winds may produce some periods of improved air today (Tuesday). Winds shift to westerly tomorrow meaning smoke conditions are likely to worsen especially in areas near the fires. Other - An "Air Quality Alert" remains in effect for the forecast area. Some improvement in air quality is tentatively forecast for the end of the week as a cold front moves through on Thursday. The Cle Elum monitor has been replaced and is reporting measurements again.
