WASHINGTON – The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) announced that federal disaster assistance has been made available to the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands to supplement the commonwealth and local recovery efforts in the areas affected by Typhoon Mangkhut from September 10 to September 11, 2018.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) hereby gives notice to the public of its intent to provide financial assistance to the State of Hawaii, local governments, Native Hawaiian Organizations, and private nonprofit organizations under major disaster declaration FEMA-4395-DR-HI. This notice applies to the Public Assistance (PA), and Hazard Mitigation Grant (HMGP) programs implemented under the authority of the Robert T. Stafford Disaster Relief and Emergency Assistance Act, 42 U.S.C. §§ 5121-5207.

Home Inspection After FEMA Registration

Applicants for federal disaster assistance with FEMA may be contacted by a FEMA-contracted housing inspector to schedule an inspection to verify disaster-related damage.

Inspectors may contact survivors by phone, text or email depending upon the contact information provided by the applicant at registration.

The inspection generally takes about 20-40 minutes. The inspector will want to see the damaged areas of the home and any damaged furniture and personal property. There is no fee for the inspection.

State/FEMA Disaster Recovery Center Open in Brunswick County

RALEIGH, N.C. – A disaster recovery center is now open in the town of Bolivia in Brunswick County.

North Carolina Emergency Management and FEMA will open additional centers in affected counties in the coming days. The centers offer in-person support to individuals and businesses in counties included in the North Carolina federal disaster declaration for Hurricane Florence.

FEMA’s National Flood Insurance Program has received more than 12,000 flood insurance claims related to Hurricane Florence and paid out more than $29 million in advance payments to policyholders as of Sept. 27, 2018. The NFIP reminds policyholders that the faster they file their claims, the faster they can begin their recovery.

WASHINGTON – The Federal Emergency Management Agency announced today that federal disaster assistance has been made available to the state of Hawaii to supplement state and local recovery efforts in the areas affected by Hurricane Lane on August 22 to August 29, 2018.


Federal funding is also available to the state and local governments, and certain private nonprofit organizations on a cost-sharing basis for emergency work and the repair or replacement of facilities damaged by Hurricane Lane in Hawaii, Kauai, and Maui counties.
