HVO Kilauea ORANGE/WARNING - LERZ lava eruption ongoing; sporadic ash emissions continue from Halema'uma'u

USGS Volcano Current Alerts - Tue, 06/26/2018 - 15:31
Jun 26, 2018 19:13 - Kīlauea Volcano Lower East Rift Zone The eruption in the lower East Rift Zone (LERZ) continues with no significant change during the past 24 hours. Fountains from Fissure 8 spatter cone continue to supply lava to the open channel with only small, short-lived overflows. The spatter cone is now 180 ft tall at its highest point, and fountains only occasionally rise above that point. The lava flow front at the coast broadened southward and is now nearly 2 miles in width. Lava is entering the sea this morning on the southern portion of the flow front primarily ...

AVO Cleveland YELLOW/ADVISORY - No activity observed in monitoring data.

USGS Volcano Current Alerts - Mon, 06/25/2018 - 16:31
Jun 25, 2018 20:52 - Low-level unrest continues at Cleveland volcano. No activity observed in cloudy satellite images over the past day. No unusual activity has been observed in seismic or infrasound data over the past day. Cleveland volcano is monitored by only two seismic stations, which restricts AVO's ability to detect precursory unrest that may lead to an explosive eruption. Rapid detection of an ash-producing eruption may be possible using a combination of seismic, infrasound, lightning, and satellite data.

HVO Kilauea ORANGE/WARNING - Collapse/explosions continue at summit, minor ash. Lava eruption continues in rift zone.

USGS Volcano Current Alerts - Mon, 06/25/2018 - 02:31
Jun 25, 2018 06:35 - Kīlauea Volcano Summit Episodic collapse of Kīlauea Volcano’s caldera floor continues, at times accompanied by bursts of small amounts of volcanic ash. The most recent of these occurred today at 4:12 pm. Since late May, these collapse/explosion events have rarely produced significant ash plumes rising more than 10,000 feet above sea level where they can pose a significant hazard to aviation. For this reason, HVO is reducing the aviation color code from RED to ORANGE. Collapse/explosion events that may produce ash plumes are expected to continue as long as ...

Jun 23, 2018 18:40 - Kīlauea Volcano Lower East Rift Zone The eruption in the lower East Rift Zone (LERZ) continues with no significant change during the past 24 hours. Fountains from Fissure 8 spatter cone continue to supply lava to the open channel with only small, short-lived overflows. During an overflight early this morning, geologists observed incandescence from Fissure 22, but no associated spattering or flow. AVO Great Sitkin YELLOW/ADVISORY - Low-level unrest continues, but no significant activity over the past week.

USGS Volcano Current Alerts - Sat, 06/23/2018 - 16:30
Jun 22, 2018 20:33 - Low-level unrest continues at reduced level over the past week. Small earthquakes continue, but a rate that is near or at background levels. No activity observed in satellite data over the past week during periods of clear weather. A satellite image collected on June 11 and analyzed this past week showed a minor ash deposit on the surface of the snow extending for about 2 km (1 mile) from a vent in the summit crater. This is presumably from the short-duration explosive event that occurred on June 10, 2018. No further explosive activity has been detected since that time. ...

AVO Cleveland YELLOW/ADVISORY - Unrest continues. Elevated temperatures observed when clear.

USGS Volcano Current Alerts - Sat, 06/23/2018 - 16:30
Jun 22, 2018 20:33 - Low-level unrest continues at Cleveland Volcano. Moderately elevated surface temperatures at the summit were observed during periods of clear weather over the past week, indicative of continued unrest and hot gas emissions. No significant activity was detected on the seismic and pressure sensors throughout the week. Future explosive activity is likely and is expected to occur without warning. Previous explosions have produced hazardous conditions primarily near the summit crater, but occasionally they have been large enough to produce a drifting ash cloud. ...

CVO Cascade Range GREEN/NORMAL - All volcanoes are at normal levels.

USGS Volcano Current Alerts - Fri, 06/22/2018 - 15:30
Jun 22, 2018 20:14 - Activity Update: All volcanoes in the Cascade Range of Oregon and Washington are at normal background levels of activity. These include Mount Baker, Glacier Peak, Mount Rainier, Mount St. Helens, and Mount Adams in Washington State; and Mount Hood, Mount Jefferson, Three Sisters, Newberry, and Crater Lake in Oregon. Recent Observations: Monitoring systems show that activity at the Cascade Range volcanoes of Washington and Oregon remained at background levels throughout the week. Small earthquakes were detected at Mount St. Helens and Mount Rainier, which is typical ...

USGS Volcano Current Alerts - Fri, 06/22/2018 - 15:30
Jun 22, 2018 18:45 - Kīlauea Volcano Lower East Rift Zone The eruption in the lower East Rift Zone (LERZ) continues with little change. Lava fountains from the Fissure 8 spatter cone continue to flow in the established channel to the Kapoho coastline. A dominant ocean entry on the south edge of the flow front is producing a large laze plume. Upslope, minor overflows from the channel occur periodically, but are short-lived and do not extend beyond the current flow field. Fissure 6 is no longer active. Fissures 16 displayed incandescence and weak lava fountain was observed at Fissure ...

HVO Mauna Loa GREEN/NORMAL - HVO instruments recorded near background seismicity, deformation for past 6 months

USGS Volcano Current Alerts - Thu, 06/21/2018 - 19:31
Jun 21, 2018 23:46 - HVO seismic and deformation monitoring networks have been recording near background levels of seismicity and ground motion at Mauna Loa Volcano for at least the last six months. These observations indicate that the volcano is no longer at an elevated level of activity. Accordingly, HVO is dropping the Mauna Loa alert level to NORMAL and the aviation color code to GREEN. HVO continues to monitor the volcano closely and will report any significant changes. Stay informed about Mauna Loa by following volcano updates and tracking current monitoring data on the HVO web ...

Jun 21, 2018 08:35 - Kīlauea Volcano Lower East Rift Zone The eruption in the lower East Rift Zone (LERZ) continues with little change. Lava fountains up to 187 feet tall rise from the Fissure 8 spatter cone and feed the established channel that transports lava to the ocean at the Kapoho coastline. One main ocean entry is producing a billowing plume of laze that is being blown onshore. No overflows from the channel were observed this afternoon or evening.
