AVO Cleveland YELLOW/ADVISORY - Unrest continues. No significant activity observed in seismic or satellite data.

USGS Volcano Current Alerts - Mon, 09/03/2018 - 13:31
Sep 3, 2018 17:48 - Low-level unrest continues. Slightly elevated surface temperatures were observed in satellite images acquired over the past day. These slightly elevated temperatures are thought to be from hot gas emissions from the summit crater and are normal for Cleveland volcano during periods of low level unrest. Webcam views of the volcano were mostly obscured by clouds. No significant activity was detected in seismic or pressure sensor (infrasound) data over the past day. Cleveland volcano is monitored by only two seismic stations, which restricts AVO's ability to detect ...

HVO Mauna Loa GREEN/NORMAL - Seismicity slightly elevated. No clear evidence of resumed magmatic recharge.

USGS Volcano Current Alerts - Sun, 09/02/2018 - 21:31
Aug 5, 2018 22:48 - Over the past month, earthquake activity at Mauna Loa increased slightly over the previous six months. Clusters of small earthquakes have been recorded beneath the summit caldera, upper west flank, upper Southwest Rift Zone and southeast flank but these have been minor and short-lived. Elevated earthquake counts beneath the southeast flank are in part due to strong deflation at Kīlauea volcano's summit during July. HVO deformation monitoring instruments on Mauna Loa have also shown changes related to ongoing strong deflation of the Kīlauea summit. There is no clear ...

HVO Kilauea ORANGE/WATCH - Kīlauea's eruption lull continues. Minor lava activity reported in fissure 8 cone.

USGS Volcano Current Alerts - Sun, 09/02/2018 - 16:32
Sep 2, 2018 20:11 - Kīlauea summit and lower East Rift Zone Seismicity remains low and ground deformation is negligible at the summit of Kīlauea Volcano. Earthquakes, probably aftershocks of the magnitude-6.9 earthquake in early May, continue on South Flank faults. On the volcano's lower East Rift Zone (LERZ), incandescence was observed in the fissure 8 cone yesterday afternoon (09/01) with reports of activity extending into early evening. In addition to a persistent spot of spattering, lava slowly covered the 65-by-15 m (210-by-45 ft) crater floor by evening. Webcam views showed ...

AVO Great Sitkin YELLOW/ADVISORY - Unrest continues. No significant activity observed in seismic or satellite data.

USGS Volcano Current Alerts - Sun, 09/02/2018 - 16:32
Sep 2, 2018 19:33 - Low-level unrest continues at Great Sitkin Volcano. No significant activity was observed over the past day in seismic data or in mostly cloudy satellite images. Great Sitkin Volcano is monitored with a local real-time seismic network, which will typically allow AVO to detect changes in unrest that may lead to an explosive eruption. Rapid detection of an ash-producing eruption would be accomplished using a combination of seismic, infrasound, lightning, and satellite data.

USGS Volcano Current Alerts - Sat, 09/01/2018 - 15:31
Sep 1, 2018 20:31 - Kīlauea summit and lower East Rift Zone Seismicity remains low and ground deformation is negligible at the summit of Kīlauea Volcano. Earthquakes, probably aftershocks of the magnitude-6.9 earthquake in early May, continue on South Flank faults. On the volcano's lower East Rift Zone (LERZ), the last visible incandescence in the fissure 8 cone was observed on August 25. Yesterday morning's (8/31) overflight crew saw no incandescence anywhere on the flow field and coastal area. This morning, ground crews report the fissure 8 cone is quiet and only steam is coming from ...

AVO Cleveland YELLOW/ADVISORY - Unrest continues. Seismicity is low. Weakly elevated surface temperatures observed.

USGS Volcano Current Alerts - Fri, 08/31/2018 - 17:31
Aug 31, 2018 22:08 - Weakly elevated surface temperatures in the summit crater of Cleveland volcano continue to be observed in satellite data during periods of clear weather, but are interpreted to be due to hot outgassing. This is typical of Cleveland volcano and indicates that low-level unrest continues. No significant activity was detected in seismic and infrasound (pressure) sensor data throughout the week. Future explosive activity is likely and is expected to occur without warning. Previous explosions have produced hazardous conditions primarily near the volcano, but occasionally ...

CVO Cascade Range GREEN/NORMAL - All volcanoes are at normal levels.

USGS Volcano Current Alerts - Fri, 08/31/2018 - 17:31
Aug 31, 2018 21:42 - Activity Update: All volcanoes in the Cascade Range of Oregon and Washington are at normal background levels of activity. These include Mount Baker, Glacier Peak, Mount Rainier, Mount St. Helens, and Mount Adams in Washington State; and Mount Hood, Mount Jefferson, Three Sisters, Newberry, and Crater Lake in Oregon. Recent Observations: Monitoring systems show that activity at Cascade Range volcanoes remained at background levels throughout the week. Crews have been in the field at several volcanoes this week doing geologic studies and sampling volcanic gases

AVO Cleveland YELLOW/ADVISORY - Unrest continues. No significant activity observed in seismic or satellite data.

USGS Volcano Current Alerts - Thu, 08/30/2018 - 15:30
Aug 30, 2018 19:46 - Low-level unrest continues. Slightly elevated surface temperatures were observed in satellite images during relatively clear periods over the past day. This is interpreted as being due to hot gas emissions from the summit crater, which are typical for Cleveland volcano at this low level of unrest. Web camera observations showed a weak gas plume at the summit of the volcano. No significant activity was detected in seismic or pressure sensor (infrasound) data over the past day. Cleveland volcano is monitored by only two seismic stations, which restricts AVO's ability to ...

YVO Yellowstone GREEN/NORMAL - YVO Monthly Update: normal earthquake rates, no significant deformation

USGS Volcano Current Alerts - Wed, 08/29/2018 - 22:31
Aug 1, 2018 22:23 - Recent work and news Steamboat geyser remained active in July, with eruptions on July 6 and 20. Some field work also took place in the Park, including geological mapping and the installation of a new gas monitoring array at Bison Flat near the Norris Geyser Basin. The gas sensors are designed to run year-round and are the first of their kind in Yellowstone. All other gas monitoring in the park consists of spot checks or temporary deployments that have never been continuous for more than a few months at a time. We are hopeful that this new data stream will provide ...
