AVO Veniaminof YELLOW/ADVISORY - Weakly elevated surface temperatures in satellite data. Steam plume seen in webcam.

USGS Volcano Current Alerts - Thu, 01/31/2019 - 17:32
Jan 31, 2019 22:07 - Weakly elevated surface temperatures were observed in mostly clear satellite images over the past day. A steam plume from the intracaldera cone was visible in webcam views. Intermittent weak seismicity persists in the form of occasional low frequency earthquakes and tremor. Eruptive activity consisting of lava effusion and/or ash emissions could resume at any time without significant seismic precursors. Veniaminof volcano is monitored with a local real-time seismic network, which will typically allow AVO to detect changes in unrest that may lead to a more significant ...

HVO Mauna Loa GREEN/NORMAL - Seismicity slightly elevated. Possible slow inflation of the summit magma reservoir system.

USGS Volcano Current Alerts - Thu, 01/31/2019 - 00:32
Jan 3, 2019 02:35 - No significant changes in earthquake activity were detected in December. Small events continued in long-active areas including beneath the northwest flank and summit caldera. The largest earthquake for Mauna Loa in December was a M2.6 event at a depth of 8 km or 4 mi. USGS received two felt-reports following this event. Data from GPS instruments on Mauna Loa indicate possible slow inflation of a summit magma reservoir system. The rates of deformation are lower than during the period of more intense unrest from 2014 - 2017. HVO continues to monitor the volcano ...

AVO Great Sitkin YELLOW/ADVISORY - Nothing significant seen in satellite data. Some small earthquakes over past day.

USGS Volcano Current Alerts - Wed, 01/30/2019 - 16:34
Jan 30, 2019 22:13 - Nothing significant was observed in cloudy satellite images over the past 24 hours. A few small earthquakes have been detected on local seismic stations. No explosive activity noted on a regional infrasound array on Adak Island. Great Sitkin volcano is monitored with a local real-time seismic network, which will typically allow AVO to detect changes in unrest that may lead to an explosive eruption. Rapid detection of an ash-producing eruption would be accomplished using a combination of seismic, infrasound, lightning, and satellite data.

AVO Cleveland ORANGE/WATCH - Weakly elevated surface temperatures observed once over past day.

USGS Volcano Current Alerts - Wed, 01/30/2019 - 16:34
Jan 30, 2019 22:13 - Weakly elevated surface temperatures were observed once at Cleveland in mostly cloudy satellite images over the past 24 hours. No activity detected in regional seismic or infrasound data. The most recent explosion of Cleveland occurred on January 9. A new lava dome emplaced since that time may increase the likelihood of explosive activity at the volcano. Most Cleveland explosions are short duration and only present a hazard to aviation in the immediate vicinity of the volcano. Larger explosions that present a more widespread hazard to aviation are possible, but less ...

AVO Cleveland ORANGE/WATCH - Steam plume observed over past day. Dome growth may have ended as early as January 16.

USGS Volcano Current Alerts - Mon, 01/28/2019 - 18:32
Jan 28, 2019 21:33 - Weakly elevated surface temperatures were observed at Cleveland in clear satellite images over the past 24 hours. A steam plume was reported yesterday afternoon. Recent satellite data suggests lava dome growth first observed in the summit crater on January 12 may have ended as early as January 16. Since then, observations show the center of the newly emplaced lava dome is slowly subsiding. The most recent explosion of Cleveland occurred on January 9. Emplacement of a new lava dome since that explosion may increase the likelihood of explosive activity at the volcano. ...
