AVO Cleveland ORANGE/WATCH - Low-level unrest continues. Lava flow in crater observed on June 25.

USGS Volcano Current Alerts - Fri, 07/06/2018 - 17:30
Jul 6, 2018 20:01 - Low-level unrest continues at Cleveland volcano. Elevated surface temperatures were observed through July 3 of this week following the observation of a small lava dome on the floor of the summit crater on Monday, June 25. Clouds have obscured views of the volcano by satellite since July 4. No significant activity was detected in seismic and pressure sensor data throughout the past week. Future explosive activity is likely and is expected to occur without warning. Previous explosions have produced hazardous conditions primarily near the summit crater, but occasionally ...

HVO Kilauea ORANGE/WARNING - LERZ lava eruption ongoing; sporadic ash emissions continue from Halema'uma'u

USGS Volcano Current Alerts - Thu, 07/05/2018 - 15:30
Jul 5, 2018 20:07 - Kīlauea Volcano Lower East Rift Zone The eruption in the lower East Rift Zone (LERZ) continues with no significant change during the past 24 hours. Fountains from Fissure 8 spatter cone continue to supply lava to the open channel with intermittent small, short-lived overflows. The spatter cone is now about 55 m (180 ft) tall at its highest point, and fountains rarely rise above that point. The crew on this morning's overflight thought that the fountain and lava level in the upper channel were lower than on past mornings. North of Kapoho Crater, small overflows from ...

AVO Cleveland ORANGE/WATCH - No significant activity observed today.

USGS Volcano Current Alerts - Thu, 07/05/2018 - 15:30
Jul 5, 2018 19:57 - Unrest continues at Cleveland volcano. No significant activity was observed in seismic or pressure sensor (infrasound) data over the past day. Clouds obscured views of the volcano by satellite today. Cleveland volcano is monitored by only two seismic stations, which restricts AVO's ability to detect precursory unrest that may lead to an explosive eruption. Rapid detection of an ash-producing eruption may be possible using a combination of seismic, infrasound, lightning, and satellite data.

YVO Yellowstone GREEN/NORMAL - YVO Monthly Update: normal earthquake rates, caldera subsidence, geyser eruptions

USGS Volcano Current Alerts - Mon, 07/02/2018 - 17:31
Jul 2, 2018 22:19 - Recent work and news June saw three additional water eruptions of Steamboat geyser, on June 4, 11, and 15. YVO Scientists were actually present to witness the activity on June 4 and 15! The scientists on June 4 were removing 28 portable seismometers from around the geyser. Those sensors were installed in early May and recorded four Steamboat eruptions. The University of Utah scientists leading the project hope to use the data to better understand the plumbing system beneath Steamboat, and why that geyser, and others like it, behave in an intermittent fashion. ...

USGS Volcano Current Alerts - Mon, 07/02/2018 - 16:31
Jul 2, 2018 21:10 - Unrest continues at Cleveland volcano. Elevated surface temperatures at the summit extending southwest down slope were observed in satellite data over the past day. These thermal signals are consistent with observations earlier this week of a lava flow from the summit crater. Low-level seismic activity is ongoing, but nothing unusual was observed in seismic or pressure sensor (infrasound) data over the past day. Cleveland volcano is monitored by only two seismic stations, which restricts AVO's ability to detect precursory unrest that may lead to an explosive eruption. ...

AVO Great Sitkin YELLOW/ADVISORY - Seismicity has increased above background levels.

USGS Volcano Current Alerts - Sun, 07/01/2018 - 14:30
Jul 1, 2018 18:37 - Earthquake activity at Great Sitkin Volcano has increased above background levels over the past day. Numerous small, shallow earthquakes are occurring beneath the summit at rates as high as 10-20 per hour. It is uncertain if this unrest will lead to any eruptive activity but this remains a possibility given the general degree of unrest at Great Sitkin over the past several months. Thus AVO is raising the Aviation Color Code and Alert Level to YELLOW /ADVISORY. AVO detected a brief steam and ash explosion at Great Sitkin on June 10, and earthquake activity then declined ...
